Carassius auratus is sold small and marketed as an easy first pet, but it's one of the more demanding species in the hobby once you account for its real adult size, its unusually heavy bioload, and the genuine differences between hardy common/comet varieties and the more delicate, rounder-bodied fancy varieties.
